Finals Week Tips

If you’re reading this right now, chances are that you, much like myself, should be preparing for your impending doom, otherwise known as finals week. You’ve spent the last 10 (or 16 for you semester folks) weeks going to class (probably), taking diligent notes during lectures (or doodling), and completing hours upon hours (and hours) of projects and homework assignments, that would all lead up to this point of the quarter (semester) – finals week. This last week of instruction was the calm before the storm, finishing up projects, completing final homework assignments, etc. Despite the fact that you have encountered this fateful week many times before, for some reason its reappearance comes unexpectedly by the time it does come around. Because of that, you find yourself ripping your hair out, stress eating, cramming as much information into your brain as possible. If not, congratulations – you’re in denial. But before you go on that stress-induced rampage, here are a few tips to keep from doing so (or at least postpone it).

Growing Up

As children, the idea of growing up seems like the most exciting thing in the world. We were always told things like “you’ll understand when you’re older” and bombarded by images of fun activities that we were told only grown ups could do. We thought Peter Pan was out of his mind for never wanting to grow up. But as every year passes by and we get older and older, we start to understand where Peter was coming from, never wanting to grow up.

5 YouTubers Everyone Should Know About

Upon hearing that I frequent YouTube to the extent that I do, and that I subscribe to a handful (or two) of YouTubers, I’m always asked out of all of them, which is or are my favorites. If you want to know more about my YouTube obsession and how it all came to be, you can read more about it here. To be fair, all of the content creators that I subscribe to are different and talented in their own ways, so it’s difficult to name a few, let alone just one, of my favorites. It also doesn’t help that I tend to discover more and more talent on YouTube almost on a daily basis. I often find myself sitting in front of my computer watching Youtube videos for hours, when my initial intention was to watch one or two videos (sound familiar to anyone?). But after much deliberation, I have managed to narrow it down to 5 that stick out to me, and whose videos I can watch for hours on end (I’ve embedded the links to their respective channels in the images below. You’re welcome).

The Maze

It’s a common belief that magic and religion are completely incompatible, that one contradicts the other, and thus should not be combined under any circumstances. Jim Munroe disproves this notion in an extraordinary way, very easily captivating his audience with every illusion he performs and every word he says onstage. He shows that magic and religion are very relatable topics, and very much go hand in hand. He shows that a simple card trick can be extraordinary if looked at with the right perspective.

5 Smart Phone Apps Everyone Should Have

Technology is constantly evolving, and everyone is desperately trying to catch up with the age of technology, whether it’s buying the latest version of the iPhone, the newest Galaxy phone by Samsung, or updating their operating system. In the midst all of this, newer phone applications are being continually developed, and these same phone apps are also being updated to keep up with the newer operating systems. While most apps are completely asinine in that there is absolutely no purpose to their existence (remember that dumb Kardashian game that was also incredibly addicting?), there are also apps that make day to day living a whole lot easier, and oftentimes entertaining. The following are five that I, myself, have downloaded, and am completely in love with.

YouTube v. Mainstream Media

Many people see YouTube as simply an outlet to watch music videos, movie trailers, that one scene from that one television show, interviews, tutorials, etc. But ever since its inception in the mid-2000s (feel old yet?) there have been content creators who decided to put snippets of their own lives on the internet for other people to see. Eventually the term “vlog” was coined, and more and more people began sharing their lives online.

Hilary Duff is NOT Perfect

Let me preface this post by saying that I am an incredibly huge super fan of Hilary Duff. Anyone who’s known me for more than 5 minutes knows that. People who has ever come in remote contact with me is aware of this. People who are within a 25 mile can sense it. I mean, I’ve dragged my parents and sister outside of LA County to stand in line for hours to meet her, and I’ve skipped an entire day of classes (sorry, Mom) to go meet her a second time. If that’s not superfan enough, I don’t know what is.
