I like to think that I have a relatively diverse taste in music. When asked what my favorite type of music is, I’m usually pretty open to many genres. Spotify did a pretty good job at introducing me to artists I never would have found without the internet. It keeps track of what I listen to on a daily basis and compiles personal playlists with songs from artists I may be interested in. Spotify also did this cool thing this year, allowing me to view my listening trends over the past year based on my listening history. According to Spotify, I listened to over 44,000 minutes worth of music, spanning across 1,615 different songs and almost 700 different artists, exploring 27 different genres along the way. Spotify also compiled a list of my top 100 played songs from 2017. In case anyone is interested in listening to those songs and taking a peek into what music I like to listen to, here are the songs I listened to most this year, according to Spotify.
Blogmas Day 10: Thoughts on Taylor Swift’s “Reputation”
It’s been exactly one month since Taylor Swift released her new album, “Reputation,” and over a week since she has made the album available on all streaming platforms. Given her pop culture presence over the past several years, it’s pretty safe to say that the release of this album has been long anticipated, whether you stand on the side of excitement or apathy. Now that I’ve had the album in my possession for a month (and has since been on repeat in my car), I feel now is the appropriate time to finally share my thoughts and feelings on this album.
Blogmas Day 3: November Jams
Okay so I realize that this is the second post about music in a row, but I’m currently in the midst of studying for finals, and I needed something to post today. Hopefully the music I’m featuring in this post will make up for the lack of creativity and thoughtfulness – I promise that will all come back as soon as the quarter ends next week.
Blogmas Day 2: Christmas Jams
As we enter the last quarter of every year, the urge to listen to Christmas music becomes stronger and stronger. How early is too early to start listening to Christmas music? Is it appropriate to start before Thanksgiving? What is the earliest on Thanksgiving Day that we can start having All I Want For Christmas Is You on repeat? Did Michael Buble do a better job singing that song than Mariah Carey? These are all the questions we need to ask ourselves every year as the Holiday season grows near. But these questions are up to you to answer for yourself, and I am not here to make those decisions for you. But when you do finally decide your stance on the timing of listening to Christmas Music (and who did the better rendition of which song), I’ve put together some of my favorite songs that surely gets me into the holiday spirit.
25 Things That Were Going On In Music Last Time Adele Released An Album
It’s been about a month since Adele made her grand return to music with the release of her first single in almost 4 years, “Hello.” Since then, Adele has taken significant strides to reclaim her rightful throne overseeing the seas of scandal-hungry and mediocre-at-best pop stars with a handful of live performances (which were all fire, by the way), new album teasers, long-anticipated interviews, all leading up to the release of her first full-length record in over four years, 25.
Music Monday: Walter’s Month in Music (August 2015)
Lately, I’ve noticed that a few of my friends create monthly playlists of songs that they’ve found over the course of each month. I’ve been meaning to get in on this trend myself, and earlier this month, I finally got around to starting my own monthly playlist.
Music Monday: Hilary Duff – “Breathe In. Breathe Out.”
After 8 long years of waiting for a follow-up to her last studio album, Dignity, Hilary Duff fans everywhere are rejoicing the recent release of her long anticipated record, Breathe In. Breathe Out. Following almost two years of Instagram posts in the recording studio, leaked potential song titles for the then-upcoming album, and entire songs released by Hilary herself, fans are doing anything but Breathing In and Breathing Out (see what I did there).
Hilary Duff “Sparks” Buzz with Latest Music Video
The past several years proved to be pretty dormant in Hilary Duff’s professional life, partaking in minimally publicized projects, but active in terms of her personal life. Since the release of her last big project, Hilary participated in a few charity events, filmed an independent movie, sprinkled a handful of magazine photoshoots into her schedule, and booked several television guest appearances, all while discovering the rewarding lifestyle of motherhood. After remaining under the radar for these past few years, Hilary Duff has finally emerged out from underneath her rock and back into the limelight – and in a big way.
Zayn Left One Direction and Now Everything is Ruined
On March 25, 2015, catastrophe struck many lives around the world – tears were shed, hearts were broken, riots broke out (I’m assuming). Media outlets around the world reported one of the most devastating news stories that society has ever been informed – the departure of beloved Zayn Malik from One Direction.
Music Monday: Connor Franta – “Common Culture”
It seems as though breaking into the music industry is a growing interest among the YouTube community. With the likes of online musicians such as Kina Grannis, Tyler Ward, and Troye Sivan, Connor Franta is next in line to grace our iTunes and Spotify playlists with new music – but not in the way anyone would expect.
